“The Mixtape is a fine art that is threatened by the loss of the medium. Two channel analog magnetic tape is disappearing in favor of MP3 files. A mixtape is a snapshot of your musical and social tastes during the brief period in which you created it. That summer in 1992, maybe your mixtape was full of Stone Temple Pilots, Morrissey, Toad The Wet Sprocket, The Cure, and audio-clips from Blade Runner. You gave that tape to your girlfriend. She dumped you, but not because of that mixtape. That was awesome! Nobody makes mixtapes anymore. Analog audiotapes just aren’t passed around anymore. It’s a shame, really. Yes, the medium sucks, but the concept and the thought and the ART needs to find a way to live on. The USB Mixtape Memory Stick is a digital analogue to the venerable C90 cassette of old. A Gig’s worth of storage or your MP3s, organized into a cohesive whole – something that says who you are at this moment in time. Packaged to look like an old analog audio cassette tape, with room to scrawl out your tracklist, the USB Mixtape Memory Stick makes the perfect gift to your significant other. You have to provide the music and the liner notes, but that’s the art. We only provide the canvas. The USB Mixtape Memory Stick comes in four distinct styles, each artistically distressed to look like a vintage audio cassette. Stores up to a gig of whatever you want, but we recommend Ogg and MP3.”
Over fifty years ago at the Paddington Station in London a stuffed bear was found with a note that read “Please take care of this bear, thanks”. The Brown family found the lost little teddy bear and named him Paddington after the train station. They adopted him immediately and took him home to live with them. Paddington changes the lives of the Brown family the minute he went to live with them.
Paddington’s Humble Beginnings
The original creator of the imaginative story of Paddington Bear, Michael Bond, wrote the book, “A Bear Called Paddington,” in 1958 and it was awarded the best book of the year for children. His inspiration for the story was a forlorn teddy beat sitting all alone on a shelf in a London department store where he was sitting out a snow storm. He purchased the bear as a present for his wife and named the bear “Paddington” for the train station nearby.
Michael wanted Paddington to be a bear from Africa, but that was not believable since no bears were from there, so he changed the bear’s birthplace to Peru. In the story, Padding Bear was sent to the train station by an aunt that had become old, hoping that someone would be able to take care of him.
Michael Bond not only patterned his stories after his own Paddington, but the Browns in the story bore a slight resemblance to the Bonds. The first book written with Paddington Bear as the main character led to six more collections between 1968 and 1981. Several of the paddington books were illustrated by artist Peggy Fortnum, in pen and ink drawings. Her artwork consisted of modeling Paddington after a Malayan bear in the London zoo.
Paddington Bear was a curious teddy bear. The busy city of London is so different from dark Peru. The fascination for Paddington Bear was a surprise for most Londoners. His observations of life in general have endeared him to fans all over the globe. Aunt Lucy had taught Paddington a lot, so he was wise beyond his years.
Due to his own TV series in 1972, Paddington Bears and memorabilia soon became very popular. Paddington always wears a floppy bush hat along with a blue coat and wellington boots. In the later years of his books and programs some other fashionable clothing was added to his wardrobe. Many collectors would love to get their hands on one of the original Paddington Bears.
